Corps Security agrees sale of Papua New Guinea operation to G4S
Contracts cementing the deal with G4S (which already runs an operation in PNG) have already been exchanged, with the sale being completed once PNG’s regulatory controls have been met.
Under the terms of the agreement, the existing Corps Security operation (including its general manager Andrew Cannock) will transfer to the new owner in due course.
With over 3,000 licensed security staff and a team of expert managers and consultants operating from a network of 12 regional offices around the UK, combined with a CCTV monitoring centre based in Glasgow, Corps Security’s PNG division was its only operation outside the UK. Following a review of its existing structure, the management of the company decided to focus its resources on developing business within its home territory.
Under terms agreed with G4S, Corps Security fully expects that its former customers will continue to receive the high level of service they have come to expect while employees will also benefit from being part of a larger local operation.
Comment from the CEO
Corps Security’s chief executive, Peter Webster, told SMT Online: ‘We’re immensely proud of what we have achieved in PNG, and are very pleased that we have managed to find a buyer that will continue to give the business the focus and investment that it deserves.”
Webster added: “While the decision to sell was not an easy one, it forms a key part in our ongoing strategy of enhancing Corps Security’s position as the most respected and expert security solutions provider in the UK.”
Established 151 years ago, Corps Security is one of the oldest and best respected commercial suppliers of security services, offering a wide range of specialist security services which cover every aspect of threat reduction and business protection.
Originally formed to provide gainful employment for injured ex-servicemen returning from the Crimean War, this ethos of caring for ex-soldiers, sailors and airmen continues today, with a high percentage of the company’s workforce having previously served within the Armed Forces.
This rather unique history sets Corps Security apart from mainstream security providers. However, it’s the company’s modern and innovative approach to service design and delivery which has seen it grow to become recognised today as one of the UK’s market leaders.
