Doctors enlisted to spread fire safety message
Community fire safety officers have linked up with Ludlow’s largest medical practice in a pilot scheme to urge elderly and vulnerable people to have a home fire safety visit.
Letters and leaflets are being sent to groups of patients most at risk from fire – starting with those over 75 suffering dementia – encouraging them to book a home fire safety visit. Doctors at the Station Drive surgery are also being asked to raise the subject of fire safety during routine appointments with vulnerable patients.
Delyth Humphreys, community fire safety officer, told Info4fire that the scheme had been devised to reach those most at risk, while ensuring data protection and patient confidentiality.
"We know that the elderly and vulnerable are more at risk and that is why we want to support these people in better preparing themselves for some of the dangers that they face within their home.
“We want to thank the GP surgeries for helping us reach the people who really need our services most," she added.
