Faulty vacuum cleaner sparks hotel fire
A four-storey hotel in Kings Lynn was evacuated after an electrical fault inside a vacuum cleaner caused a fire.
Around 40 firefighters attended the blaze at Duke’s Head Hotel during lunchtime last Friday.
A wet/dry vacuum cleaner inside a double bedroom on the fourth floor had been faulty, the Norfolk fire and rescue service said.
Fire crews managed to contain the blaze to one bedroom, which was badly fire and smoke damaged. The hallway also suffered smoke damage.
The fire took around an hour to get under control, and was mostly over by 1.15pm.
The building had mostly been evacuated when crews arrived on scene. Floors one, two and three were undergoing refurbishment at the time.
