Heading for shelter… but where?
Shelter areas can always be designed-in to a new building of course, but – depending on the form of construction and the threat considered prudent to protect against – they can usually be identified in existing structures, too. Met any event, they should meet the following requirements:
- blast pressure should be less than eardrum rupture;
- glazing hazard should be low hazard level or less;
- sufficient life support services must be provided;
- there should be sufficient room to contain all personnel;
- travel distances to the shelter must not be excessive.
