He said:"We are working closely with the police and with the Home Office to reduce the number of false alarms; and progress is being made. However, it is important that efforts to reduce the number of false alarms do not, in fact, reduce the number of alarms per se. This is certainly a danger in the domestic market where margins are particularly tight and the requirement for confirmation technology on all new domestic alarms from October 2001 could in fact double their cost."
"Although we are pleased that a universal policy has been agreed by ACPO, we are not happy with all aspects of the policy and it still remains to be seen if all Police Forces will comply with it. We have asked our member companies to report any regional variations and will monitor developments very carefully.’
