Identicom mobile smart-phone app awarded ACPO’s ‘Secured by Design’ accreditation
Connexion2 first received ACPO’s (Association of Chief Police Officers for England & Wales) Secured by Design (SBD) Award for its Identicom lone worker devices in 2009.
Using much of the functionality available on the Identicom lone worker device, but on a BlackBerry or Windows Mobile smart-phone, Identicom mobile is an app for lone workers, and is easy to install through a simple download process by clicking a URL link and following several simple steps.
The product enables a user to obtain the necessary help if they become a victim of verbal abuse, attack or they feel their safety could be compromised.
The Identicom mobile range has recently been expanded with new versions for iPhone and Android announced in September 2011.
Connexion2 says: “The award marks a significant step for how a lone worker app for a smart-phone can be judged as ‘fit for purpose’ – particularly when coupled with Connexion2’s BS8484 audit approval ensuring all SoloProtect solutions are guaranteed a Police escalation when required by the lone worker.”
Launched in 2010, Identicom mobile affords a lone worker many of the features and benefits of the Identicom Lone Worker Device but specifically caters for workers who face infrequent social risk.
Ease of use
The app utilises the same function terminology as Identicom, such as ‘Amber Alert’ and ‘Red Alert’, providing ease of use across a range of workers who might be using a mix of dedicated and non-dedicated devices.
Identicom mobile also allows the user to automatically open a ‘Red Alert’ through the product menu and by a definable single key for ease of use in the face of verbal abuse or attack, even when the key lock is deployed.
Secured by Design is the UK Police flagship initiative supporting the principles of “designing out crime” through the use of effective crime prevention and security standards for a range of applications.
A not for profit company, ACPO Crime Prevention Initiatives Limited was established in 1999 by the Association of Police Officers (ACPO) to manage Secured by Design and similar crime prevention initiatives at a national level.
Craig Swallow, managing director of Connexion2, said: “Gaining ‘Secured by Design’ status from ACPO for Identicom Mobile is both a logical expansion of our product accreditations but also a significant achievement.
“It demonstrates our commitment to safety and sustainability and provides our customers with the assurance that all our products match quoted performance claims.
“Securing SBD status accreditation provides the entire Identicom product range with a competitive advantage and reiterates our status as the UK’s leading provider of lone worker safety products.”
