Jobs boost for the north

The company aims to recruit staff for several specialised sectors including fire, CCTV, access control and building management systems.
ADT has its northern headquarters on the Team Valley Trading Estate in Gateshead, but the regional office has a catchment area which includes a section of North Yorkshire as well as all of Teeside, County Durham, Cumbria and Northumberland.
Other offices are in Carlisle and Stockton. ADT hopes that all parts of the region can benefit from the recruitment drive.
The jobs boost will expand ADT’s northern workforce to more than 300. This follows the recent acquisitions of Gateshead firm Wares Security Systems and Darlington-based Security Surveyors Group.
Andrew Ward, Core Commercial Sales Manager, commented: “We are delighted to announce our latest expansion. All new ADT recruits are put through a comprehensive training programme at our Training Academy in Birmingham. Prior sales or security experience would obviously be preferable. ADT is now one of the largest single employers in the area, but our aim is not to stand still. We hope to create a significant number of vacancies throughout 2002 – and that can only be good news for the north.”
Meanwhile, three ADT installers in Portsmouth have been presented with awards after notching up 90 years of combined service. Don Pearce, Mike Fisher and Graham Mullender each joined the company – then called Associated Fire Alarms – back in 1971.
Despite five name changes, the most recent of which saw the ADT Fire and Security brand introduced in January 1998, the trio have remained loyal servants.
Don met his wife Cheryl in the job – she works as an intruder service co-ordinator in the same department. And he recently encouraged his son to apply for a position in ADT’s High Security Engineer team.
Mike Fisher said: “ADT has been a good firm to work for. Being at the forefront of technology, I am constantly challenged.”
Graham Mullender added: “My job has given me the freedom that I like. I have enjoyed my time at ADT and hope to stay with the company until I retire.”
