Licensing tops the bill at Safer Doors Conference

Door supervisors, line managers, directors and owners of leisure security companies, training professionals, equipment suppliers, police forces, local authority managers and end users are all set to gather in Peterborough for the third National Safer Doors Conference, which runs on Wednesday 2 May at the East of England Showground.

This important national event – the only one of its kind in the UK specifically for door supervisors – offers attendees the opportunity to learn all about what’s new in the sector, and to network and socialise with other security professionals working in the leisure industry.

Of course, compulsory vetting, training and licensing is now well and truly embedded in the sector across England and Wales – soon to be followed by Scotland and Northern Ireland – courtesy of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). How has licensing affected the sector to date? Has it been worth the time and expense? Is it working properly? Could the system be improved? What further training might be provided to door supervisors? Is the Approved Contractor Scheme of genuine benefit to companies in the leisure sector?

These and many other questions will be answered on the day by a range of experienced and expert speakers from the leisure industry and associated sectors, including Vernon Coaker (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Home Office), Andrew Shephard of the SIA, Andrew Nicholls (Mitchells and Butlers), Bill Fox of Maybo and Martin Brown from LMC Global.

“We would particularly like to see our colleagues from Scotland and Northern Ireland in attendance,” said Safer Doors Conference host Andy Walker (pictured above). “They can learn much from the English experience of regulation. Then they will be able to plan ahead and ensure that they are compliant with the law right from the start of licensing.”

Other topics to be covered during the speaker sessions include sector training, protective security, bomb awareness training, arrest and plastic restraint training, instruction in physical intervention and the new qualification for head door supervisors. There will also be an Open Forum Question and Answer session.
