More than 20 firefighters have been injured in an apartment fire in Manhattan, US.
Crews battled for around seven hours to put out the wind-fuelled blaze, which killed one resident.
Mary Feagin, 64, died in the six-floor apartment fire, which started around 7 pm on Saturday. (19 February).
Around 200 firefighters were called to the blaze, which was made worse by winds which “acted like a blowtorch”, according to the Wall Street Journal.
"This was bad because of the wind," Fire Chief Edward Kilduff told the Daily News, as quoted in the WSJ. "We had to evacuate very quickly because basically the fire chased us right down the hall and down the stairs."
There were no life threatening injuries, and the remaining residents of the 70-apartment building managed to flee to safety.
An investigation into the cause is underway.
