‘New’ SSAIB has VIP launch

The inspectorate will be keeping the name of the SSAIB but will be adopting the management procedures of the AISC, which it says, "include the nationally acclaimed BSI ISO 9002 certification for quality management procedures and Investors in people accreditation".
The inspectorate continues: "These established and proven management systems coupled with the extensive technical expertise of SSAIB and contributions to standards from Integrity 2000 will form a solid foundation for the new SSAIB inspectorate".
A list of the Board of Directors, due to be published, will include directors from all three of the merged inspectorates. Brigadier Alan Needham will be Chairman.
A new logo has been designed and, after the official launch, recognised installation firms can promote their services through the use of the logo.
As previously reported in Security Installer, Geoff Tate (former Chief Executive of the "old" SSAIB) will be Chief Executive of the new organisation. Rob Armstrong (Chief Executive of the AISC) will be responsible for Business Development and Ron Grief (Chief Executive of Integrity 2000) will be Financial Controller.
The inspectorate, now numbering more than 1,300 installation companies on its combined books, has pledged greater help for its installers while promising minimal disruption to the inspection regime.
On its announcement, Rob Armstrong told Security Installer that installation companies could now join an organisation "appropriate to their needs".
He said it would increase their standing for insurance. All three inspectorates in the merger had the common goal of supporting ACPO/ABI by being accredited by UKAS. Accreditation met the minimum requirements for insurance and it was up to individual installers to satisfy the insurance companies’ individual requirements.
The launch at the Metropole Hotel, Birmingham, was due to be attended by industry "VIPs" including Sir Stanley Bailey, Assistant Commissioner Andrew Trotter (ACPO Security Systems Working Group), Brigadier Alan Needham, Jackie Bennett (ABI) and Bruce George MP.
