New Year’s fire guts five-star hotel in China – VIDEO

A massive fire has destroyed a five-star hotel, in Shenyang, capital of northeast China’s Liaoning Province.

The hotel was evacuated by around 50 people, according to local news source, Xinhuanet news.

The fire broke out in the early hours of 3 February, after fireworks set off to celebrate the Chinese New Year sparked against the exterior of the building.

Flames quickly spread through two towers in the high-rise complex, reports said.

Pump jets could not shoot water higher than 50 metres, though the building was 219 metres tall. It is one of the tallest structures in the city.

According to the Daily Mail, New Year fires are common for the country, with more than 160 fires reported in Shenyang this year.
