The allegations, made in The Mirror, published in Northern Ireland, were made by a former employee of ADT, Belfast.
He claimed that he was asked to sign off inspection forms when no inspection had been undertaken. He also claimed that the Northern Ireland Office had been billed for work on the panic alarm systems although work had not been carried out.
The allegations sparked a call (reported in the Belfast Telegraph), by Nigel Dodds, an Assemblyman of the DUP (Ulster Democratic Unionist Party) for a full investigation into the report that 177 VIPs had their safety put at risk.
The Northern Ireland Office, however, said there was no evidence that any individual’s security had been jeopardised.
A spokesman for the Northern Ireland Office told Security Installer: "Police are investigating the allegations. There is no evidence that any individual’s security was jeopardised. We are taking steps to ensure that any security equipment installed is functioning properly." A spokesman for the RUC said: "This matter has been referred to the police by the NIO. For that reason it would be inappropriate to make any further comment."
In a statement ADT said: "ADT Fire and Security plc has launched a full investigation into allegations made by a former employee of its Belfast branch. The investigations team is headed up by ADT’s Group Human Resources Director, assisted by ADT’s National Service Manager, and ADT’s Internal Investigations Manager (a former detective Chief Inspector at the Metropolitan Police). An independent legal firm based in Northern Ireland is also supporting the ADT investigations team. ADT is co-operating fully with the RUC investigation."
