CCTV
Combo system
Vicon Industries’ AurorAcorD is a combined multiplexer and digital video/audio recorder. It allows 16 channels of video to be recorded with settings for recording rate, sensitivity and quality. Video information is condensed using a Wavelet compression algorithm that maximises recording time without compromising on quality. In addition, the audio utilises a similar codec compression scheme to optimise recording times and limit the effective bandwidth to 6KHz.
Of particular use to end users is AurorAcorD’s ‘museum search’ feature, which divides video pictures into 192 motion detection blocks and comes into its own in playback mode. By selecting a block of the scene recorded, and scanning the hard disk pictures at an accelerated playback rate for motion in that square, users don’t have to review the whole video at the recorded rate to find particular scenes.
The AurorAcorD can be fitted with one or two hard drives, or one hard drive and a CD-R/W drive. Video and audio are stored in a proprietary format along with alarm, time and titling information for each camera. It also has full telemetry control, and can remotely control up to 16 camera domes/PTZ drives using the RS-422/485 protocol.
Display options include playback through a VGA monitor output or a standard digital BNC output, and a full accessory kit includes rack mounting brackets/handles, software, termination blocks and cable accessories.

Destiny in the making
Baxall’s latest addition to its Destiny-IP range of network video CCTV products is a sophisticated codec. The advanced hardware and software solution converts signals into compressed binary data, allowing full-motion, real-time, high quality video combined with audio, data and alarm signals to be transmitted over IP compatible networks anywhere in the world. The design also allows cost-effective network sharing for both installer and end-user, with fully integrated remote monitoring via PSTN, ISDN or DSL IP routers.
The Destiny IP codec can be configured as a server or client, and can support four video inputs offering 25 fps from a single camera or 4/5 fps from each camera. Users can set up all IP addresses and view and control any camera on the system, either as a single, full screen or quad display. Control is via a simple GUI that allows control of PTZ functions and camera-to-monitor switching.
The Destiny IP codec supports PAL and NTSC UDP multicast video, allowing users to view images simultaneously from numerous locations, and audio, control data and external alarms. TCP options are available for point-to-point connections.

Cost-effective controller
Ultrak’s brand new controller offers a cost-effective CCTV control solution in the form of the KEGS5000 system keyboard. It has a rate-proportional pan and tilt joystick with integral ‘twist action’ zoom giving operators quick and intuitive control of all Ultrak CCTV equipment. It is capable of managing up to 256 cameras and domes, 16 multiplexers and 16 VCRs, including all of the functions on all peripheral equipment.
Cameras can be selected by multiplexer and then by camera number, or directly by their own numbers to improve reaction times. 10 pre-programmable macros and definable ‘soft key’ recalls have been added to give extra control flexibility.
Separate operator and supervisor log-ins also protect set-up commands, and the controller has been designed for a tough operational environment with a large format, easy-to-read backlit LCD showing system status.

Ruggedised DVR
Norbain has launched a ruggedised digital video recorder that has won compliance against rail industry testing standards for continuous performance during exposure to high levels of vibration and shock. The March Networks 4120 DVR underwent 12 months of testing, and was proven to provide evidential quality footage in tough environments. It can store up to seven days of continuous recording on a 10Gb drive (1 camera at 15fps) that can be expanded by adding a further 10Gb hard disk.
The 4120 DVR has an EMI-proof, dustproof and waterproof chassis, fail safe battery back-up, flexible installation and mounting configurations and a conditioned power supply output for up to four cameras. Video can be accessed via a portable computer or remotely via a wireless GSM connection. It can also be removed from its operational environment for connection to a LAN or WAN, providing maximum flexibility for authorised data analysis and investigation.

User-friendly upgrade
Dedicated Micros has introduced a new level of user-friendliness to its popular Sprite Lite multiplexer with the addition of telemetry support. It enables control of domes via the system controller’s remote keyboard. It can also trigger the dome to switch automatically to a pre-set position when an external alarm is activated, ensuring the camera is focused on the source of the action.
Record rates and performance of key cameras can be improved by choosing to record from selected cameras or all cameras, and in the event of camera failure, an automated prompt message alerts the operator immediately.

Camera extensions
EverFocus’ EQ camera series features a strikingly sophisticated new design with two high resolution outdoor cameras as well as two new camera versions with varying focal lengths and the ability to use DC and video drive lenses. Using the latest circuit design and Sony CCD sensors, all the cameras also offer a higher sensitivity, with a backfocus mechanism that allows fast and easy lens mounting without C-Mount adaptors. All models are available either as 230v AC or as low voltage (12/24v DC/AC) versions.
The EZ-300 colour and EZ-180 black and white cameras are equipped with DC varifocal lenses (3.5-8mm and 9-22mm) extending their outdoor application fields substantially. Other features include a thermostat-controlled heater and back light compensation, and the series comes fitted with sunshield and bracket.

Locked from inside
IR Locknetics Security Engineering’s Safe School electronic lockset enables students and teachers to protect themselves in hostile situations. The standalone, battery-powered lock has an iButton reader, which locks a classroom’s exterior lever from the inside when the reader comes into contact with an iButton, without students or teachers having to open the door. An LED display provides verification that the door has been locked.
The locking system is computer managed with special software. Each lock is programmed using a laptop or PDA. The software also enables information from other IR EACD locking systems to be downloaded, including Recognition System’s biometric HandReaders. An audit trail for up to 1,000 users or events is also kept by the lock system.
The Safe School lock is available as cylindrical, mortised or unit locks and operates on four AA batteries, which give up to 80,000 activations. There are five architectural finishes with three lever styles. Vandals are prevented from breaking into the room because the clutching lever simply gives way until it receives an authorised code. Security is further enhanced by placing the electronics on the secure side of the door.
