S C Sinha appointed DG of NIA

S C Sinha has been appointed as Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He is an IPS officer of the 1975 batch and belongs to Haryana Cadre. He is currently Special Director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Sinha is the second officer from the CBI to head the NIA, which was constituted in December 2008 after the 26/11-terror attack. Sinha takes over after Radha Vinod Raju who retired as the NIA chief on January 31.

The Union Government set up the NIA after the November 26, 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai to investigate and prosecute offences affecting the sovereignty, integrity and security of India.

The agency is aimed at speeding up investigations into terrorist attacks and other major crimes with inter-state ramifications.
