School’s out for CCTV

The system, devised by Scottish Communication Systems (SCS), is said to be one of the most advanced systems installed at any school in Scotland.
Seven cameras, which can zoom in on any sudden movements, are planned in and around the main A-listed school building and have to comply with strict building regulations.
The cameras will cover the main building and the girls’ boarding houses. Images from the system will be beamed directly onto laptop computers used by senior staff, in an attempt to deter intruders.
Fettes college spent GB pound 400,000 installing an in-house IT system two years ago.The IT network will also be used to communicate security images around the college.
Head teacher Michael Spens said: “Anyone with special access codes will be able to view images through our in-house IT system. We will be able to see what’s going on from any point where we can plug in a laptop.”
