Securicor and CSS officers highly praised for acts of bravery

Security officers working for Securicor and Leicester-based Central and Shires Security have been praised for acts of bravery while on duty – further examples of how important these individuals are when it comes to protecting businesses and their workforces.
Securicor Security officer Mrinal Sarker showed great courage when he challenged three criminals who were attempting to enter a Channel Tunnel Rail Link construction site. Despite being physically attacked, Mrinal managed to prevent the men from gaining access until the police arrived on scene.
Mrinal has been presented with a cheque for GB pound 500 to reward what was a gallant and brave effort.
Meantime, university authorities and the local police have hailed a 40-year-old officer as “a hero” after he stopped a gunman from entering a campus dance at which over 700 students were in attendance, writes Roger Bushby.
The Central and Shires Security (CSS) officer – who wishes to be known only as ‘Ian’ (pictured, below right) – was on duty outside a crowded Students Union Hall at the University of Leicester when he stopped four youths from entering the premises.
One of the youths waved a loaded pistol in his face, but Ian stood his ground. Police have since confirmed the gun was real – and was loaded. Checks also revealed that it had been fired at an incident in Nottingham earlier that day.
Said Ian: “Four youths walked up, and we could tell that they were under age. I refused them entry. When one of them produced a pistol, my only thought was that they mustn’t be allowed in to the crowded dance hall with a weapon.”

Police have CCTV footage of the incident which is being studied for clues, and are currently looking for the offenders.
