Securitas secures its workers with Sonim tracker
The XP3 Sentinel, a mobile handset designed to send out alarms quickly or receive help calls in an emergency, has replaced mobile radios that were being used by the company.
XP3 replaces older and ‘unreliable’ radios
Guards using the older portable handsets were losing contact with teams on rounds and often not continuously monitored, Securitas said. This was affecting response time.
“The response time to an alarm is an important factor to our customers”, Guido Krauss, Securitas IT project manager said.
“The dispatch centre needs to be on high at all times.”
‘Ideal for workers in potentially dangerous conditions’
Telepointer supplied 250 units to Securitas in the Netherlands with more phones expected to be delivered to other locations.
“This is ideal for workers in construction, oil, gas and other potentially dangerous conditions.” Sanjay Jhawar, of Sonim told info4security.
Securitas NL created its own monitoring server and emergency response centre. It then integrated the system’s functionality to its software to specify the phone’s set up.
Handsets ‘increase productivity’ at Securitas
The handsets have been praised for increasing productivity in Securitas’s workforce and aiding communication, due to “constant connectivity”.
“The voice connection is essential to their operation,” said Krauss.
The number of false alarms is also down. For example, guards are sent a message every fifteen minutes to check on safety, a window that can be decreased or increased according to the user’s specifications.
Before Sonim, the message times were set 30 minutes apart due to how long it sometimes took to receive. Sonim’s Sign of Life function, a button activated by the guard, conveys to the message centre that a situation is fine.
Securitas guards work across four different industries, in vans, in customer facilities, in airports and in monitoring centre services.
