Held on Wednesday 9 February at Glasgow’s Garage venue, the event attracted a crowd of over 60 delegates.
Anderson and Showsec’s operations executive Mark Lawton gave a very detailed presentation at what is Scotland’s only specialist event and industry conference for the hospitality sector.
Anderson offered an overview of event stewarding before focusing on the more detailed elements involved in crowd management throughout the pit area.
His educational seminar covered topics from crowd dynamics and behaviour through to demonstrating lifting techniques for safely removing people from the crowd.
Importance and value of training
Using Showsec’s Training and Staff Development Department as a proven example, Anderson discussed the importance and value of training staff to enable them to manage situations in a professional way, thus creating and maintaining safe event environments.
He very much hopes that, by sharing his expertise – itself a combination of knowledge gained from the national Showsec network and experiences of managing security at flagship Scottish venues – he has helped encourage the sharing of knowledge and engendered co-operation for better working practices among local security professionals.

I’m part of a business culture which firmly believes that industry-relevant training and qualifications and building a wide range of experience means that event and venue security specialists will offer the highest service to customers.”
Showsec Scotland’s security portfolio includes famous venues such as Edinburgh’s Playhouse, the O2 Glasgow Academy, the Aberdeen Music Hall, Dundee’s Caird Hall and Aberdeen’s Exhibition and Conference Centre.
