Det-Tronics has released what is claimed to be the world’s first optical fire and gas detectors certified to Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL-2) by the certification agency RWTUV Systems GmbH of Germany.
This development was engineered to meet demands of oil and gas industry companies requiring the most reliable fire and gas detectors available. This is especially the case, says Det-Tronics, as owners move towards the implementation of safety systems compliant with the international safety standard IEC 61508.
The Det-Tronics SIL-2 certified X3301 multi-spectrum infrared flame detector, and PIRECL Eclipse infrared combustible gas detector are said to provide the vital elements in the design of reliable SIL-compliant safety instrumented system to protect critical operations.
The IEC 61508 standard sets out a risk-based approach for deciding the safety integrity level of systems, and is said to be widely accepted as the design standard for critical safety instrumented systems in the global oil and gas industry.
