The CSR Chronicles: Looking after your people

I am always fascinated when it comes to planning and implementing a CSR policy that it does not matter the size of the business, the same challenges are faced.

We are going through them and I am hopeful that these articles are helping you. For further information, contact me through the G4S Technology website.

In my last article, I delved into the important theme of good governance within your organisation. This month the subject of choice is looking after your people.

Your senior CSR representative and senior management team has accountability for the welfare of all employees that contribute to the organisation.

Taking care of your staff has been proven to improve morale, motivation and in the longer term, promote a healthier working environment.

Below are some basic standards to help maintain your organisation’s employee satisfaction:

  • Promote diversity and inclusion at all times
  • Assist individuals to work together as a team
  • Respect the individual needs of employees
  • Encourage employee engagement and provide opportunity for feedback
  • Offer appropriate employee training opportunities to enable potential to be fulfilled
  • Protect employee health, safety and wellbeing
  • Respect employee rights and where applicable, union rights
  • Comply with all relevant statutory and legal requirements

Having now covered good governance and looking after your people, the next step in the process will move on to the topic of supporting your community.

Until the next time, keep up the great work and it would be great to hear more examples of how you are applying your CSR policy.
