TSI looks to develop Forum on Information Risk and Security

The Institute envisages initially developing a Forum on Information Security which would help achieve the following aims:

  • develop a specialised Working Group to explore the subject of information security/intrusion across a range of specialist security disciplines – this would potentially lead to the development of Best Practice guidelines in the area of IT risk management and governance
  • develop initiatives that will include target hardening programmes, industry alerts and partnership working and interventions working with law enforcement agencies and universities
  • to use this Forum as an umbrella to open the avenues of dialogue between the Stakeholders – including Governmental departments (SOCA, etc), financial institutes, law enforcement, academia and security companies – with the main objective of sharing Best Practice principles
  • to develop Institute expertise in the area of information security by exploring the potential of seminars and launching specialised masterclass (eg CISSP, CEH, penetration testing and the human vulnerability/social engineering side), thus enhancing professional development and education and generating revenue
  • to develop a web presence on the Institute web site where details of the potential projects and information on the Institute’s expertise could be made available for contact

Possible areas of interest would be:

  • business continuity and disaster recovery planning
  • access control and Internet security
  • information security and risk management
  • IT security and corporate governance
  • digital investigation and forensic process

Aleem told SMT Online: “I would like to hear from any members interested in joining this Forum, and it would be particularly useful to understand their own experience in the area of IT risk and security.”

Aleem would like e-mail responses to be sent by 30 August to: [email protected], and for them to include brief details of expert areas (ie qualifications and experience in any of the above topics).
