TSSI launches pre-employment ID checker
According to a recent article in The Guardian, the number of foreign nationals working in the UK has risen from 1.66 million to 2.32 million in the last three years. That being the case, it’s vital that businesses ensure the correct documentation is in place to avoid harsh penalties for employing illegal workers.
Employers are now legally obliged to check the entitlement of their staff to work in the UK, and any caught hiring illegal workers could face an on the spot fine of GB pound 10,000.
Validate provides a simple, cost-effective solution for police and Governmental offices, Human Resources Departments, employment agencies and any other organisations recruiting foreign nationals who wish to easily verify ID documentation and ensure workers are eligible to work in the UK.
The software works by checking the Machine Readable Zone (MRZ), expiry date and RFID chip on a passport. It will also check the document security features under a variety of light sources using ultraviolet, infrared, white and coaxial light before storing the scanned ID document onto a database. Validate can also be used by the police service to authenticate driving licences, passports and Visa documents.
Integration plays its part
Validate software works in conjunction with TSSI’s range of document readers. The software integrates with both the Full Page Reader desktop readers and a Portable Reader. The Portable Reader is an ideal application for use by police forces whose officers want to carry out spot checks on individuals’ ID documents.
“It’s important for any business, as well as police and Government offices, to verify the ID documentation of all their workers. It streamlines the recruitment process and helps provide business security as well,” said John Barker, the general manager at TSSI Systems. “Validate provides the ideal solution: a high standard of secure verification software which is highly advanced and yet, at the same time, cost-effective.”
TSSI demonstrated the Validate software at the ACPO-APA Summer Conference and International Policing Exhibition, which was held on 8-9 July. Other products on show included the Verid+ fingerprint biometrics for secure access control and basic time and attendance, the Morvin VIN analysis solution for checking vehicle VIN numbers as well as Imprivata’s OneSign solution designed to simplify access to networks and desktop applications.
Distribution of the OneSign Platform
The company has also announced that it has signed a partnership agreement with the aforementioned employee access management company Imprivata to distribute its OneSign Platform for securing and simplifying access to networks, desktops and applications. TSSI’s focus will be selling and implementing Imprivata OneSign into police services and health sector Trusts nationwide.
Recognising the increased demand for safe access to applications with a single password or strong authentication device, specifically within the policing and health sectors, Imprivata has partnered with TSSI based on its existing presence and established relationships within these key markets.
With the new strong authentication management capabilities, TSSI can help clinical and police staff to securely and quickly access the critical data for which they are authorised from multiple applications using a single set of secure log-on credentials.
John Barker explained: “With our extensive knowledge and experience in delivering best in class physical access authentication solutions, adding OneSign to our portfolio was a natural step for us. Our contacts in the police departments and hospitals place the utmost importance on making sure that public data within their networks and servers is safe yet easily retrieved in their every day jobs and certainly in the event of an emergency. Imprivata’s OneSign platform is key to helping our existing and prospective customers achieve this kind of streamlined access management.”
Immense potential of single sign-on
Omar Hussain – president and CEO at Imprivata – added: “Organisations across many sectors, including local Government, defence and manufacturing are quickly recognising the immense potential of single sign-on, both from an employee efficiency and security perspective. We look forward to working with TSSI which will utilise its vast industry experience and expertise to deliver the OneSign solution to forward-thinking organisations, helping to streamline IT access and drive productivity while delivering optimum levels of security.”
Additionally, to meet compliance stipulations OneSign provides IT personnel with complete transparency into exactly who accessed what files, when and from where. With OneSign, IT staff can also terminate a user’s entire network and application access capabilities in order to prevent any unauthorised trespass attempts.
