UK security firms profit from trade mission to US

The national mission was organised by UK Trade and Investment and built on the recent agreement between the UK and US governments on cooperation in science and technology for critical infrastructure protection.

The trade mission began with an overview from senior representatives of the UK Home Office and US Department of Homeland Security and continued with a series of events which enabled the firms to meet with senior US government teams and contractors. Phil Hodgins, UKTI South East specialist advisor on security, said: “Aligning the priorities of the US with top class UK technology companies proved to be a crucial part of the success of the mission. Unfortunately many of the details of the partnerships entered into area sensitive for commercial or security reasons. But the fact that 11 deals have already been signed so far, and numerous collaborations are lined up over the next few months, demonstrates the maturity of the UK security market and justifies its reputation as a hotbed of security innovation.”

UK companies involved were: Smith Detection, Avecia, EvanesCo Ltd, Radiation Watch, Best Scientific, Thales UK, Exocyte, HPA – Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response, Health Protection Agency, Becrypt, OmniPerception, Paradigm Secure Communications, Rochford Thompson Equipment, First Cyber Security, BT plc, Senselect Holdings, LogicaCMG UK, MMI Research, University of Kent, Serco, University of Greenwich, Simentra, QinetiQ and Detica Group.
