‘Umbrella’ status for SSR

In essence, this means that London-based SSR will be able to undertake checks against the Police National Computer (PNC), regional police force’s intelligence records and the Department of Health’s register.
Full CRB checks are currently taking six-to-12 months to complete (depending upon the level of check required).
That said, Del Hunter – a director at SSR – told Security Management Today: “Employees can still apply for checks on themselves by telephoning the CRB directly on 0870 909 0844). These checks take about four weeks to complete.
Security professionals who’d like to find out more about the services of the CRB should check the dedicated web site (www.crb.gov.uk).
Alternatively, attend the SITO National Training Conference on 5 November, when Mark Favager will be speaking on the topic of vetting and screening (see our News Special on p14 entitled ‘Training for a safer environment’ for further information).
The SITO event is being held at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.
