ADT Fire and Security has upgraded three Minerva-based fire detection systems with digital MZX technology at Wolverhampton’s New Cross hospital.
ADT has looked after security at the site for the past twenty years
New Cross, the largest hospital in the Black Country with an estimated 40,000 visitors a week, is made up of a mix of old and new buildings.
ADT has looked after security at the site for the past twenty years.
The upgrade includes over 15 MZX networked panels, over 9,500 detectors, 3,600 sounders and 1,240 break glass points.
In the event of a fire, the sounders have been set to automatically activate and a number of predetermined doors should close in order to isolate the fire and protect escape routes, ADT said.
The company also installed a deaf alerter system that comprises a VHF radio transmitter and aerial connected to the hospital’s existing fire alarm system.
Brian Sweet, electronics manager at at the hospital, said: "The service from ADT Fire and Security has been excellent.
"The ADT team spends on average 16 hours a week onsite upgrading the existing systems, maintaining those in place and liaising with the estate managers.
"Needless to say for such a large and complex site – having an effective fire detection system in place at all times that helps reduce the risk of false alarms and ensures early detection of a fire is imperative and ADT provides the technology and the support that we can rely on."
