How WD Showcased the WD Purple NV Hard Drive at IFSEC 2015
Leading hard drive manufacturer WD Introduced the latest addition to its WD Purple hard drive range at IFSEC International 2015 last month.
Specifically designed for the video surveillance sector the WD Purple NV is also aimed at the growing Network Video Recorder (NVR) market.
Mindful of the demands required by NVRs the product offers higher capacity and durability so that cameras can retain video footage for longer periods for analysis and reference, I was told by WD staff at London’s ExCeL in June.
Presenting the product at their IFSEC stand on the show floor they explained how the video surveillance market was focused on NVRs rather than the traditional DVR market. The ‘Purple’ increases the number of channels available, accommodating up to 64 CCTV cameras.
WD, a Western Digital company, is designed for larger-scale network video recorder (NVR) surveillance systems, which demand higher hard drive bay counts and greater numbers of attached cameras, in turn demanding more storage capacity. Purple NV is also designed to accommodate the needs of always-on digital NVR recording.
Designed with tarnish -esistant components the hard drives offer protection in harsh environments such as outdoor cabinets, where moisture and other natural elements may be present.
The drive is backwards compatible with DVR systems.
The latest incarnation of the WD Purple is likely to be followed by more versions soon.
“We aim to provide a portfolio of products,” said WD staff. “If there is one thing about this industry it is not a ‘one size fits’ all approach and we have to provide a number of options.”
With the ‘Purple’ well established in the video surveillance market and WD having secured a place in the top 20 providers in the industry the California-based company is seeking to make further inroads into the sector.
