ONVIF has announced the availability of the release candidate for Profile C, ahead of the final release in early 2014.
Following on the recent announcement of Profile G, Profile C addresses interoperability between access control systems and network video systems.
Profile C will make deploying an integrated, IP-based video surveillance and access control solution easier, and will simplify the process of installation and end user training, according to ONVIF.
Baldvin Gislason Bern, Chairman of ONVIF’s Profile C Working Group, explained:
Integration between IP-based physical access control systems and video surveillance is no longer considered a luxury in today’s market, and is becoming a necessary component for many different types of users. With Profile C, users and specifiers will be able to integrate the Profile C products of their choosing without relying on existing integrations between manufacturers.
With more than 1,700 products conformant to ONVIF’s Profile S, and the recent announcement of Profile G — a new standard for video playback — the portfolio of ONVIF standards is growing rapidly. Profile C devices will enable:
Door monitoring
Access control decisions
Alarms
Locking and unlocking doors
Combined with Profile S — which covers video and audio streaming — users will be able to associate video surveillance and access control alarms more easily.
The ONVIF Network Interface Specification Set version 2.3 has also been released, incorporating the new Profile C release.
