David Crowder, senior consultant on fire and security at BRE Global Ltd, talked to us at FIREX International 2013 about fires in social housing, and particularly, Lakanal House.
He told IFSEC Global that there are a lot of lessons to learn from that tragedy. He also explained that the media coverage of the Lakanal House inquest has been “helpful in some respects,” as it shines a spotlight on fire safety issues.
He said: “Putting a spotlight on [Lakanal House] is a useful way of taking on those lessons and ensuring that the industry can move forward and build upon that tragedy, and try to make sure it doesn’t happen again in the future. It’s uncomfortable, but it’s a helpful process.”
