HANWHA TECHWIN

Wisenet X chipset wins ‘Grand Prize’ as Hanwha Techwin targets cash-strapped local authorities with incident detection solution

Hanwha Techwin’s high performance chipset, which is incorporated into Wisenet X cameras, has claimed the Grand Prize at the High-tech Safety Industry Product and Technology Awards in South Korea.

The Wisenet X chipset processes video footage up to three times faster than earlier generations. Specialist analytics are also pre-loaded on board Wisenet X cameras, which incorporate 150dB Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) technology and motorised varifocal F0.94 low light lens.

Hanwha Techwin opted against including IR LEDs and says that supplementary lighting isn’t required either to achieve a good picture, day or night, in any environment.

Some models include gyro sensors for enhanced image stabilisation.

Held in South Korea, the High-tech Safety Industry Product and Technology Awards were sponsored by 15 government agencies and organisations including the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), and Defence Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).

“All around the world, it is being recognised that our Wisenet X cameras have set a new standard,” said Bob (HY) Hwang PhD, managing director of Hanwha Techwin Europe.

“This award follows on from the announcement a few months ago that Wisenet X was selected as the winner of the Video Surveillance Hardware category in the UK’s Benchmark Innovation Awards 2017.

“The development of Wisenet X cameras reflects how ‘we move with trust’ by listening closely to our customers and taking on-board their future, as well as current, needs. In addition to deterring and detecting criminals, we understand end users wish to achieve so much more from their video surveillance cameras than they would normally expect to do with standard high definition cameras.

“The retail sector, for example, is increasingly looking for video surveillance cameras to help them identify opportunities to improve the customer experience through the use of video analytics. As a result, Wisenet X open platform cameras have been packed with innovative, real-life practical features, some of which are unique to Hanwha Techwin.”

Incident detection for cash-strapped local authorities

Hanwha Techwin has also announced the launch of Wisenet Automatic Incident Detection (AID), produced in collaboration with analytics specialist Sprinx Technologies.

The traffic AID component detects and alerts operators to the following issues, among others:

  • When traffic is slowing or a queue of cars is lengthening
  • Broken down or illegally stopped vehicles
  • Drivers travelling in the wrong direction
  • A pedestrian in danger
  • Smoke in a tunnel
  • If cargo has fallen off a lorry

The Traffic Hub server based application collects and aggregates data from multiple network connected Wisenet cameras and through its interface offers a quick overview of all traffic incidents. Providing detailed but easy to understand graphs of traffic data such as the numbers and average speed of vehicles, the application is available in 4, 16 and 48 channel packages.

Designed for budget conscious local authorities, Wisenet AID is available in specific modules for security buyers who don’t need the full suite of functionality:

  • Pedestrian and stop detection (PSD): Alerts are generated when pedestrians and stopped vehicles are detected in a tunnel or on a hard shoulder.
  • Traffic flow: Simultaneously monitors two separate traffic lanes in order to estimate traffic flow and automatically alert operators when there is congestion on the roads and queues are developing.
  • Traffic data: For short term traffic management and long term city centre planning, the Traffic Data solution provides statistical data about the density, average speed and flow of motorbikes, cars, lorries and buses. It can simultaneously monitor two lanes of traffic moving in different directions, whilst a cleverly devised Origin-Destination Matrix (OD) feature highlights traffic conditions at busy city centre crossroads and roundabouts.
