Whitepaper: Enhancing security, resilience and efficiency across a range of industries

The Changing Landscape of Indian Electronic Security Industry

In the wake of a renewed threat landscape across the nation, security is increasingly being seen as a preventive tool and acts as an enabler for a more competent, operative, and responsive business. With increasing focus on building a holistic and secured environment, the paradigm of security is moving from device security to guarding of assets with enlarged alertness of threat management while keeping in mind the reputational cost.  The Indian security market is already undergoing major developments from sectors such as city surveillance, public transport, hospitality, airport security, BFSI and retail.

Surveillance is no longer used for physical security alone. The emergence of network video and remote monitoring devices and the advent of advanced applications in security products, surveillance is now a tool for gathering business intelligence and other applications. Other than this, a recent report suggests that the India Video Surveillance market is expected to reach $952.94 million by 2016, with a CAGR of 32.49 percent from 2011-2016. As per a recent study by Research and Markets, with the high-success rate of CCTV surveillance devices worldwide, security conscious organizations (both government and non-government) in India are implementing CCTV surveillance, reflecting an annual expected growth rate of more than 20 percent. The growth in the market has been determined by the increasing awareness among different end user segments. In addition, declining prices and advanced features are also adding growth to CCTV market making it affordable for even smaller firms to embrace this technology.

Another study presented a report over future outlook of CCTV cameras stating, India’s electronic security market has seen a growth of 15 -20 percent annually in recent years. CCTV will continue to lead the overall market in the Indian electronics security market in future. The Indian market for surveillance and CCTV is fast changing with new technologies being introduced coupled with the technological advancement being more towards software based solutions than hardware based.

Another latest technology expected to dominate this space is the network or IP camera. From the earlier Analog CCTV technology, there has been a move and the introduction of Internet protocol (IP) based (digital), open source and fully integrated systems, with the option for remote surveillance, background screening, video analytics, digital video and sensor-based detection. IP cameras stream live video via digital packets across and internet protocol network such as a LAN (Local Area Network) leading to video streams which can be accessed remotely via smart phone, tablet or other network devices. Emerging demands for such security equipment would further encourage better technology.

While we see a huge growth in the security space in India, the market for electronic security equipment is still largely untapped and under served as there is need for greater awareness about the installation of electronic security equipment and associated benefits. While this may make the task of the market players slightly difficult, they stand to benefit from the expanding of this particular market into new user segments.  This will not only enhance the fast rising market but also vendors will need to find the right results, technology, market niche and price points to be able to make an impact in the electronic security space.

With development to all this, Panasonic carries a range of surveillance products which include all types of cameras including rain wash quoting which is ideal for rainy areas seasonally along with multiple series based on segment wise customer requirements. Recording is the key for any surveillance projects, where we have a range of recorders both in Digital as well as the Analogue system. Also, our products are compatible with all leading Video Management software.
