IFSEC Insider speaks to Mike Ward, Managing Director for the Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) on virtual reality (VR) and its use for fire safety training at FIREX 2023.
Mike talks us through the ASFP’s new VR mobile training trailer, which he says is all about engaging fire safety professionals and improving retention from training sessions.
Information is said to be retained 30% more through the VR experience than theoretical or visual training, allowing trainees to vividly imagine being in ‘real-time’ environments.
In addition, we hear more about the ASFP’s competency pathway related to the new legislative requirements and competency targets for the fire industry. Mike then finishes by looking ahead to what’s next for the ASFP and its members.
The interview takes place in front of ASFP’s Pavilion with its mobile training trailer in the background at FIREX 2023.
