HID Global diversifies into biometric identity management with Crossmatch acquisition

Identity solutions specialist HID Global has acquired Crossmatch, a developer of biometric identity management hardware and software.

Founded in 1996 and based in Florida, Crossmatch develops solutions for civil government, defence and commercial applications.

The Florida-based company, which employs over 270 professionals across a global network of development hubs and sales offices, was previously owned by private equity vehicle Francisco Partners.

Crossmatch has a division dedicated to biometric identity products aimed at the immigration and border control, law enforcement, and military and defence markets. These tools encompass criminal booking, rapid mobile identification, background checks, security clearance processing, military base access, counter-terrorism and mobile intelligence gathering, visa processing and citizen services.

The company’s commercial division has single finger readers, modules, sensors and software developer kits (SDKs) for sectors like retail, financial, healthcare and OEM markets. Crossmatch also provides single fingerprint sensors that are integrated with major POS software applications to point-of-sale (POS) terminal manufacturers.
