Mitie acquires fire & security tech provider GBE Converge Group

Mitie Group PLC has announced the acquisition of GBE Converge Group, a Gloucester-based provider of fire, security and information and communications technology solutions.

The acquisition was made for £27 million, comprising an initial payment of £20 million and deferred payments of the remaining £7 million.

GBE describes itself as an independent and bespoke fire, security and IT solutions provider, covering design, installation and support.

In 2016 GBE Fire and Security acquired a stake in Converge Technology, eventually culminating in the merging of two companies to offer a “genuine end-to-end service” and support for all IP-based solutions.

GBE has a multitude of delivered projects to its name, covering a range of sectors. These include the likes of stadia with the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, high-end commercial real estate with 60 Holborn Viaduct in London, the public sector with the Southbank Centre in London, healthcare with Great Ormond Street Hospital, and many more across residential, education, industrial and construction facilities.

“Building management systems are increasingly converging with fire and security”

Mitie Chief Executive Officer Phil Bentley said: “We are delighted to welcome the GBE team to the group. As our customers’ needs for facilities transformation evolve and demand grows for ‘smart buildings’, building management systems are increasingly converging with fire and security platforms.

“The acquisition of GBE brings sophisticated intelligence-based fire and security capabilities and enables Mitie to broaden the range of projects we can self-deliver for our customers in the built environment.”
