Konica Minolta invests €1.5m into MOBOTIX’s tech development

Japanese camera brand Konica Minolta has entered into a technology development agreement with MOBOTIX.

Konica Minolta, which acquired a majority stake in MOBOTIX in 2016, aims to boost the German firm’s development of hardware and software for a range of applications.

Under the agreement Konica Minolta will initially allocate €1.5m million in technology development programmes undertaken by MOBOTIX.

The deal builds on the existing partnership between the two companies. Konica Minolta has already deployed MOBOTIX cameras across Japan, China and France in factories, on production lines, in warehouses and distribution centres, as well as in security and surveillance vehicles.

Konica Minolta has assigned sales staff to focus on promoting to end customers and channel partners the use of MOBOTIX technology.

“We are deploying MOBOTIX technology to solve challenges in smart cities, healthcare, process optimisation and many other sectors.” Yoshiki Fukai, General Manager at Konica Minolta.

“As a first phase of this goal, we are deploying MOBOTIX technology across our global sites and are working with many of our flagship customers to create innovative new solutions that help solve major challenges in areas including smart cities, healthcare, process optimisation and many other sectors,” said Yoshiki Fukai, General Manager at Konica Minolta.

“Our partnership with MOBOTIX creates a relationship that allows us to integrate MOBOTIX expertise in digital video with the greater Konica Minolta ecosystem for our international clients and partners.”

The investment, according to Fukai, is part of an ongoing commitment towards closer collaboration. Further investments will be made when necessary to accelerate the growth of MOBOTIX in other global regions new end-use markets.

Said Thomas Lausten, CEO of MOBOTIX: “Konica Minolta is a visionary company that offers a natural fit for our aim to go beyond human vision and deliver innovation within intelligent cyber secure video systems.

“Our ongoing partnership which spans across research and development in order to support innovative new projects has been strengthened by the success of these recent projects and we look forward to working closely with the extended Konica Minolta organisation.”

When Konica Minolta became a strategic investor in MOBOTIX in 2016 it promised to improve its camera technology by incorporating new high-resolution imaging sensors and high-grade lenses.

MOBOTIX recently published a cybersecurity guide to help its customers strengthen their resilience against cyber-attack.

MOBOTIX is exhibiting at IFSEC International, 19-21 June 2018, ExCeL London. You can find them on stand C310. Register now.
