Security perspectives 2024: Adam Jurka of Ramtech Electronics Limited

With growing anti-social behaviour, staff shortages, increasing regulations as well as continued difficult traditions conditions, 2024 promises to be another challenging year for the fire and security industries. In this short interview series, I talk to six industry leaders from different backgrounds about the main issues they face as we head into 2024.

In previous interviews I spoke to Jamie Allam, CEO of installation and integration firm Amthal Fire & Security, Spencer Marshall, Head of Europe at HID Global and Sarb Sembhi, CTO of cybersecurity firm Virtually Informed and Kieran Mackie, MD of Amulet Security and Vincent Lomba, Chief Technical Security Officer at Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise.

In this final interview in the series I speak to Adam Jurka, Head of Sales, UK, Ramtech Electronics Limited.

“For the last 30 years we’ve provided security solutions to the UK’s biggest holiday home providers, Bourne Leisure (who own Haven) and Park Dean Resorts. Basically anyone who buys a home such as a caravan or a log cabin from them gets enrolled into our WISE alarm subscription.

This works using radio transmission to detect any unauthorised users getting into the park – especially in the winter months when the properties aren’t occupied – as 5G and WiFi are not always available. One problem the resorts have is with homeless people looking for a bed for the night as well as occasional break-ins.

We’ve gone through a bit of an unusual period. Covid obviously shut the sector down, but the minute it was over it opened back up again and now everyone wants to go on holiday in the UK. Obviously, it’s very seasonal though. Most of the business is done during the summer months and the winter months are spent maintaining the networks and updating the WISE units.

One product we’ve seen an increased interest in is our wireless fire alarm system. Either this can be deployed with fire detectors or simply with a push button to alert others about a possible fire. Although they are predominantly deployed in the construction of the holiday parks, systems are also found in woodland areas after parks have been built where residents may be having a barbecue.

Finally, we’re seeing insurance companies demand increased protection procedures are in place for lone workers, such as security guards. This has helped to drive demand for our REACT app, especially at some of the rowdier parks. This is because it has a feature onboard that allows a security guard to ping a message to others to come and help if they are in trouble.”
