Kentec: EVAC-POINT, ekho and Waking Watch

IFSEC-FIREX-TechTalks-20In this FIREX Tech Talks session, Kentec explores the challenges involved in tackling the Waking Watch issue currently affecting thousands of high-rise buildings across the UK. With funds now available from the Government to cover the cost of installing a common alarm system, to reduce the reliance on 24-hour manned patrols, Kentec explains how its EVAC-POINT and ekho alarm system can help building owners.

During the presentation, Derrick Hall explains the key features of BS 8629:2019 – the code of practice for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of evacuation alert systems for use by fire and rescue services in buildings containing flats – and how building owners, installers and specifiers can reap the benefits of its EVAC-POINT EACIE solution. The EN54-approved and vandal resistant panel is said to be built in mind for end-users and installers, and works with wired or wireless devices, such as the ekho range of wireless fire detectors.

In the Q&A session, topics covered:

  • Can ekho be integrated with wired solutions as well? And what hybrid options are there?
  • What is mesh technology?
  • Can EVAC-POINT and ekho be bought separately or only as a package?
  • How important is it for systems to be open protocol?
  • Are voice-enhanced sounders suitable for high rise buildings?
  • How do building owners access the Waking Watch relief fund?
