Legislation and standards on the agenda at FIA conference
Over 150 people from the fire, security and insurance industries attended the Fire Industry Association’s annual conference, held at the Williams F1 centre in Oxfordshire earlier this month.
Topics discussed at the conference included: prosecutions under the Fire Safety Order and what they mean for fire engineers; proposed changes to the code of practice for the selection and installation of portable fire extinguishers, BS 5306-8; an overview of water mist standards DD8458 and DD8489; and aspirating detection in high spaces.
Guest speaker, Suzanne Whitehead, provided an insight into how King’s College London has been managing and reducing false alarms.
In addition to the seminar and networking sessions, delegates were able to visit Sir Frank Williams’ own private Grand Prix collection of cars, trophies and memorabilia.
