Whitepaper: Enhancing security, resilience and efficiency across a range of industries

Person or pet?

Interchangeable housings

Visonic says its K9-85 is the only pet tolerant detector allowing free movement for animals up to 85 lbs. This detector is part of the NEXT new generation range: its detectors use digital technology to offer ‘greater reliability’ and reduce the number of false alarms without compromising detection capabilities.
Thanks to its optical system, NEXT products are intended to give comprehensive all-round coverage, with faster detection and no dead spots. And Visonic’s new 3D lenses also need less adjustment than conventional lenses, keeping installation time to a minimum.
The NEXT detectors are all in the same compact and stylish housing and so are easily interchangeable.

Pet smart
The IQ Profiler from NAPCO is a pet-smart PIR that profiles false alarm sources and can be installed in under a minute. Inside the detector is advanced microprocessor-based circuitry with built-in profiles of common false and real alarm sources, rejecting profiles of dogs, cats, birds, heaters and blinds.
With 50 lbs pet immunity, “superior” false alarm rejection and dual focus lenses in a bi-optic case for exceptional distance profiling, the IQ Profiler is suitable for either residential or commercial security.
Wiring is easy, with snap-down terminal strips. The installer has only to insert stripped wires in each one and snap down. Other features include look down/creep zones, a sensor chamber that prevents insect, draught and dust interference.

Most intelligent?
The Scantronic 430 PIR is one of the most intelligent pet tolerant detectors on the market, says its manufacturer Cooper Security.
It uses Target Specific Imaging to differentiate between people and animals up to 38 kg, thus helping to avoid pet-generated false alarms.
The 430 covers a distance of 12m, using cylindrical lens technology. The detector can also distinguish between electrical spikes and genuine obstructions. This model shares the same housing as the Scantronic 420 Digital PIR and 460 Domestic Twintec, and it has been designed to fit with any decor.

Specially developed software
The innovative lens design (called Vertical Beam Shaping) of the Digital Bravo 3P from DSC was developed to provide effective pet immunity while still offering good catch performance, especially in the area close to the PIR.
Coupled with DSC’s pet recognition software – again developed specifically for this sector – it is said to ensure complete and uniform detection throughout the detection range.
The Digital Bravo 3P can be set to a variety of environmental conditions. When configured to provide high catch performance, the detector will ignore a single pet weighing up to 13.6kg. Where multiple pets are involved, or a higher level of pet immunity is required, it can be set to ignore single or multiple pets with a combined weight of up to 27.3kg.
Other features include high temperature stability and protection against all false alarm sources – lightning, power surges, radio interference, car headlights, fluorescent lights, insects and dust.

Patented HOTLens
The 3D-PetWise from Texecom boasts:

  • Patented holographic optical technology (HOTLens)
  • Intruder confirmation technology
  • 200V/m immunity to digital mobile phones
  • 80 lbs animal immunity (for exam-ple, one labrador or seven cats)
  • 1.5 – 3.1m adjustable mounting height
  • Surface mount technology
  • Patented tamperproof mounting brackets
  • Remote LED disable.

Low current draw
Aritech’s DD100PI offers 10m coverage with five curtains and pet immunity up to 20kg (44 lbs). It features a ‘high-performance PIR verified by a high quality microwave’ module. Aritech says installation is simplified by plug-in electronics.
Other features include precision-sealed Gliding Focus Curtain mirrors, unique twin opposed antennae, custom dual technology ASIC, low current draw and low microwave power.

Temperature compensation
The Mercury EL-5200 from Electronics Line ignores animals weighing up to 45kg. It provides a range of 11m, uses a dual element pyroelectric sensor and is fitted with a volumetric lens. A pulse count of one or two can be selected and temperature compensation is included.
When Security Installer’s Bench Testers looked at this unit they concluded: “It performed well during stability testing. The standard of design and manufacture is very good and represents very good value for money, with a ten-year guarantee included.”
