According to The Cabinet Office, the Government is now set to spend “billions less” as a result of its much-discussed quango revisions.
All well and good, but what’s the fall-out of Government cuts likely to be for the police service? Not pleasant if you consider what Think Tank Civitas has to say on the matter.
What about regulation, too? National Doorwatch Steering Group chairman Ian Fox has suggested that what he believes to be the coalition’s lack of leadership on The Way Forward is little short of a national scandal.
For now, though, it’s business as usual at the Security Industry Authority. Indeed, make certain you air your views as part of the fifth annual Approved Contractor Scheme survey.
Lone worker protection: the current state of play
Continuing the security guarding theme, Craig Swallow recently outlined the ‘changing backdrop’ to lone worker protection, while the BSIA has welcomed proposed revisions to the security strategy for London 2012.
Speaking of which… huge fines are on the cards for anyone thinking of ticket-touting during the Olympics.
In legal circles, the first conviction has now taken place in relation to the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007. Read all about it.
CameraWatch is making its voice heard again, with the organisation’s compliance director Paul Mackie outlining his views on new estimates of camera numbers across the UK and the CCTV Code of Practice currently undergoing the required consultation period.
Elsewhere in the surveillance sector, The Networker assesses the true cost of CCTV while a revamp has strengthened custody suite operations for the West Midlands Police.
