The introduction of CCTV surveillance at one of the UK’s most prestigious retail parks has led to an "exceptionally low" number of so-called drive-offs (whereby people try to escape filling stations without having paid their bill).
James Lindsay, business director at Manchester’s Peel Holdings-owned Trafford Centre (‘On Guard’, SMT, December 2001, pp20-24) told SMT: "Compared with other petrol stations in the area without CCTV equipment, our experience of attempted drive-offs has been almost non-existent since we introduced the cameras."
Within the station forecourt, Photo-Scan has installed colour PTZs in smoked domes directly underneath the structural canopy to monitor pump activity. Fixed cameras inside the building itself watch over the cashiers and all high value merchandise.
