Eagle-eyed staff at Cougar’s 24 hour NSI gold standard monitoring station, which monitors security cameras 24 hours a day around the country, spotted someone at 00:14hrs dressed in dark clothing and attempting to steal the wheel from a car.
Watch a video of the attempted theft below – most of the action happens in the first few seconds.
Simon Jennings, Cougar’s control room manager, said: “We have a link to a tannoy system at the dealership, as we do with many of our clients.
“As soon as we spotted the intruder we immediately issued a tannoy warning to him to let him know he was being filmed and, not surprisingly, this startled him and he ran off leaving the tools of his trade behind.
“We sent the police and the key holder to the site, but unfortunately they didn’t catch him. However, we obviously stopped him in the process of stealing the wheel.”
