The system, which spanned the entire Olympic site, consisted of 500 cameras managed by ‘Control Center’, the company’s enterprise video and alarm-management software.
Each camera was connected to an IndigoVision 8000 transmitter/receiver module, which encoded the analogue signal into MPEG 4 digital video. This was then transmitted to several security command centres via the IP network.
Site-wide video recording was achieved using the company’s Windows-based Networked Video Recorders (NVRs), which were installed independent of camera positions, in various locations around the network, providing a high level of redundancy. Images were recorded at 25fps.
According to IndigoVision, the software and the network combined to create a virtual matrix, which ensured the correct video-feeds were available at the appropriate command centres. The software also provided all the management and analysis of recorded video from the NVRs. Video analytics were used to automate the low-level scene monitoring functions, which freed the operators to monitor higher-risk areas.
Existing cameras can easily be moved and new cameras added if needed, provided they have a network interface. The system was installed by Elsag, one of Italy’s largest system integrators.
