Acorn Fire & Security’s remit was to design a prototype for a mobile fully functional camera with detection and PA which was to be self powered, wireless and ruggedised. It had to be used to catch trespassers in and around quarries and landfills and as excavations or landfill expanded the unit needed to towed to new positions.
Acorn, based in Blackburn, Lancashire, came up with SiteVision which has a pneumatic mast that can extend to10m. Omni directional signal range from the unit to the receiver is 3km approx and directional transmission range 30km approx. Omni directional operation covers most operations with a longer distance antenna for static monitoring such as endangered birds, marina coverage etc.
Acorn’s Dave Grice said they have not actively marketed it: “It was developed for the UK’s largest waste company and the director we were dealing with left the company prior to prototype completion”
