The solution, which uses more than 90 Spike fixed site cameras as well as a journey time management system and a central portal, is suitable for the Bradford Council for measuring journey times and also by West Yorkshire Police to track vehicle crime. A spokesman said: “As the area covered is relatively small, the system has been able to cover all routes in and out of the city.”
The ANPR system is triggered when any vehicle passes the field of view of any of the cameras; the camera then reads the number plate and sends the data via an ethernet connection to the software, or the portal. The data that is received by the journey time software is then compared against all of the other data received and a measurement of travel time is made for each vehicle. The data sent to the portal software can be used by the police to monitor suspicious vehicles as they move around the city.
Paul Negus, managing director of PIPS, said: “We are very proud of the system we have supplied to the city of Bradford. Installing ANPR cameras around a city has been proven to improve the security, by deterring criminals from travelling into Bradford.”
