SMC to set up CCTV network for security of its installations

Standing committee of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has directed the municipal commissioner to explore the avenues to set up an independent security system to take care of its installations and offices. SMC plans to set up control room with CCTV camera network for its properties in the city. As a result it has also postponed the decision on allotment of Rs 3 crore for the Safe City project to the police department.

Surat police has started a project under which it is setting up CCTV camera in the entire city and set up a control room to monitor the activities. Police department is getting sponsors for the project. Under this project, SMC decided to participate and contribute money. It initially contributed Rs 2 crore for the project.

However, now SMC has decided that it would setup its own system of keeping watch on its important projects and set up the CCTV camera network at important locations independently. Standing committee has directed the municipal commissioner that he must start a survey of all its projects and offices for covering under independent CCTV camera network . Committee thinks in place of contributing huge amount to Surat police it could set up its own network of security. Source (Security Today)
