Surat police control room now has global reach

A crime scene in any part of the world can now be viewed by the security experts from the Diamond City Surat’s police control room, provided that site too has a close circuit television camera (CCTC) network. Similarly, the newly developed infrastructure here under the Smart City Surat Project will allow the security agencies from anywhere in the world to see a crime affected area in the city too. 

This technology, which is being used for the first time by a police force in India, facilitates easy connect with any city in the world with CCTC surveillance and minute observation of specific areas of the Diamond City, police sources said. 

The upgraded infrastructure at the control room allows police not only to connect with any Indian city but to any part of the world. If a situation like the 26/11 were to unfold anywhere now, the special forces can access the video footage of the location under attack from the Diamond City police control room. The CCTC footage can help them plan their strategies without having to visit the affected area. 

Police have spent around Rs 33 crore on the CCTC network that has 654 cameras and also on the control room with financial contribution from the city’s industry and business groups, state government and Surat Municipal Corporation. The control room has a 280 square feet wide video wall, which is one of the largest to be used by a police force in India. This project has brought many awards for the city police that proposes to install 5,000 cameras in and around the city. A Delhi Police team had visited the city to study the project
