ProtectUK website launched to provide central hub for counter terrorism and security advice

Designed to provide guidance on counter terrorism and security for businesses and security professionals, the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) launched its ProtectUK website in June.

ProtectUK-Website-22The website is free to access and is being supported by the ProtectUK app, available from both the Google Play and Apple Store on smart phones. The app is designed to provide guidance on:

  • The current threat level
  • Personal safety
  • News and bulletins
  • Awareness products and videos

ProtectUK is designed as a new central hub for counter terrorism and security advice for business owners, those who work in security, or even members of the public. Its vision is “to make the UK the safest place to live and work for all its citizens” through guidance, advice and online learning.

Advice and guidance on the site covers several facets. These include:

  • Risk – Providing guidance on approaches to managing risk and how they can be used to make a business more secure
  • Security – Providing guidance on security measures you can apply once you understand risk, including physical security measure that can be installers and active measures that staff members can adopt
  • Response – Providing guidance on how to prepare for a response, should the worst happen, covering generic response plans and detailed guidance on specific attack types
  • Recovery – Providing guidance on the long term impact of terrorism and how to plan a recovery process
  • Awareness – Providing guidance on raising awareness to help prevent a successful terrorist attack and on how to respond appropriately, including building a security culture within an organisation
  • Legislation – Providing guidance on changes in legislation and how these can affect businesses and the approaches they should undertake to increase security

There is also an e-learning section of the website, which currently includes the ACT Awareness eLearning module to support best practice and help increase security awareness.
