Raging for three days the fire gutted the medieval City of London that sits inside the old Roman city wall and engulfed 13,200 houses, 87 parish churches and St Paul’s Cathedral. Staggeringly, of the capital’s 80,000 inhabitants 70,000 lost their homes.
To mark this anniversary IFSEC Global and FIREX International – Europe’s largest annual fire-safety event – are producing a series of infographics charting the timeline of this cataclysmic conflagration, the mistakes made and the firefighting technology and fire-safety measures (or, rather, lack of them) that combined to make the fire all but inevitable.
