Distributor news

Distributor spotlight with Nimans – “Don’t get lost in price competition, total cost of ownership is key”

As part of this year’s IFSEC Distributor Network, Commercial Director for Midwich’s Security Division, Gavin Dunleavy, provides an update on how Nimans’ presence in the market has evolved since it was acquired by Midwich Group in 2022, and why it strives to be so much more than a ‘box shifter’ by providing high levels of technical support to customers.

The new Distributor Network programme at IFSEC and FIREX 2023 will see major security and fire distributors host their installer customers and manufacturing partners on the show floor at the event in May.

IFSEC Global (IG): Hi Gavin, can you give us a brief introduction to Nimans and the solutions you provide customers in the security/fire sector?

Gavin Dunleavy, Commercial Director for Midwich’s Security Division

Gavin Dunleavy (GD): Nimans, part of the Midwich Group Plc, is a specialist AV, UC & Security distributor to the trade market. We’ve been expertly delivering technology for over 35 years. During this time, we’ve earned our reputation as the ‘go to people’ for technology products, services and solutions.

Thanks to our rich heritage we’re able to say we’ve been there, we’ve had first-hand experience of how technology has reshaped and transformed business. We’ve experienced each landmark event, milestone and advancement in technology. We’ve played our part too, by helping our partners make informed technology choices that supports them and their customers on their technology journeys.

IG: So, what’s new with Nimans – what has the acquisition by Midwich Group meant for customers?

GD: Being part of the Midwich Group gives our customers a wider access to a whole host of different technologies under one roof. The benefit of this with most of these technologies is that their customer base will already have a demand for them.

Nimans also offers bespoke product innovation ‘speed date’ sessions for our customers. This allows them to see first-hand strategically tailored solutions and innovation meeting their customer’s current pain points or requirements. They can then offer ‘hot off the press’ and state of the art solutions to their customers. Via the group, we have expanded our PreConfig Service allowing customers to plug and play the kit they’re installing.

IG: You’re part of this year’s IFSEC & FIREX Distributor Network – what are you most looking forward to at the show in May?

GD: Celebrating 50 years of IFSEC and all the memories that brings. We are also looking forward to networking with our suppliers, meeting our valued customers old and new, advising them on the latest tech and entertaining them at night. That’s the really fun part!

IG: And why should security professionals come and see you in London?

GD: Because not only are we really nice and friendly, but because we can share some of the strongest industry knowledge. Plus once you see our stand you’ll know why it’s worth visiting us!

IG: Intriguing… Overall, how do you feel the role of the distributor in the has changed in the past 5-10 years?

GD: Of late in the recent challenging times value add can get lost in the competitiveness of the price. Total cost of ownership is key. The value add and added support we offer is more important now than ever to customers.

We support our industry by genuinely caring about our customers and their challenges. We offer technology solutions and innovation backed by some of the best in class technical support teams across the group. We often hear the term ‘Box Shifter’ and that is a comparison we strive to be as far away from as possible. Serving the customer underpins every decision we make.

IG: From what you’re seeing, are there any key trends in security that installers, integrators or specifiers should be aware of?

GD: Good question – I think four trends are really catching our eye right now:

  1. Analytics and AI technology is going from strength to strength
  2. Cloud – we need to be ready for when our infrastructure is ready
  3. Security systems are no longer just about security and offer so much more
  4. IP endpoints our converging – don’t let someone else ‘eat your lunch’ – we have the solutions, resource and knowledge to help you confidently take wants on the table

Nimans will be on stand IF4640 at IFSEC between 16-18 May at London’s ExCeL.
