Next Generation Body Wearable Cameras from Genetec

“We make gadgets come to life”

Genetec-logo-220Those were the intriguing words of Andrew Elvish, Vice President of marketing and Product Management at Genetec during this year’s IFSEC International.

The Quebec based software firm are showcasing the capabilities of the new SecurityCenter 5.3 SR1 services which include wearable security cameras in partnership with manufacturers B-Cam, GoPro, Vievue and ZEPCAM.

Genetec’s  unified security platform supports the import and archiving of video content from body wearable cameras. Designed to aid law enforcement agencies, public safety and security departments the technology follows Genetec’s main objective of taking everyday technology and ‘making it meaningful.’

These new technologies are closely linked to their ‘CityWise’ campaign, a worldwide project designed to aid with law enforcement and security in worldwide urban areas.

“We are very proud of the CityWise project and particularly its use in Sao Paulo. It has allowed small scale community groups to work together with the police to build a better system together.” said Andrew Elvish,

“The great thing about this technology is that it can be rolled out across other cities throughout the world. CityWise has become a central focus for our company which is why we will shortly launch it across Europe.”

However, it is not just law enforcement which is at the forefront of the company as their presence within the retail sector increasing. Starbucks is just one of many companies who Genetec provide security systems for.

“The retail involvement is what we would call a small big system. One chain of Starbucks may not need a big security system but what Genetec do is bring all of their chains together so they can all be monitored from a central location.” Andrew explained.

“I believe that these systems with large organisations is where Genetec really shines. We are also looking at the analytics side of the security market. They have been around the market for some time but in my opinion they overpromised and under delivered. Now with our analytic developments we can look at things like privacy which is a very hot topic at the moment, so there is much more to come.”

It is clear that Genetec are using their software abilities to make a real impact in the security market. But surely bringing together all the parts of their operation must be difficult? Andrew responded to this by aptly describing the security sector as an ‘orchestra’ and that Genetec are simply the ‘conductor’.
